Expertise and experience

The Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV) is one of the five main teaching Hospitals in Switzerland. The CHUV has developed close collaboration with EPFL in the domain of medical engineering. Within the CHUV, the Division of Immunology and Allergy is in charge of the training of future allergologists and clinical immunologists, and has developed strong expertise in the filed of allergy, auto-immunity and HIV both in research and clinical activities. The division of Immunology and Allergy has been constantly involved in the planning of major clinical trials in those fields, and has in parallel maintained strong expertise in the laboratory diagnosis of allergic and inflammatory diseases, as well as in research and diagnosis in those fields.

The Laboratory of the Division of Immunology and Allergy at CHUV has been certified by the Swiss Metrological Institute and has all the competence to perform routine or Research and Development assays pertinent to the field of allergy.



Key persons

Dr François Spertini. is board certified in allergology and clinical immunology as well as in internal medicine, and clinical laboratory immunology. He is teaching at the Lausanne University Medical Centre (CHUV). His main research interests are focused on the mechanisms of tolerance induction in allergy models (supported by the Swiss National Research Foundation). Apart his academic activities, he is consultant in charge of the patients with allergy and clinical immunology problems from the in- and outpatient clinics of the Department of Medicine at CHUV. He has developed special interest for the monitoring of allergen avoidance in outpatients, and has recently set up courses for nurses specially trained to visit allergic patients at home and able to help the allergists in their practice. He is currently the president of the Swiss Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
